Security tightened after Indonesian riot

Security has been tightened in the Indonesian town of Bandung in West Java after riots by more than one thousand street vendors.

The trouble started as local officials tried to close vendors' stalls, saying that they were trading illegally.

The vendors went on the rampage, damaging shops.

Hundreds of police and security force personnel were deployed to bring the rioters under control.

Many shops have remained closed today, Tuesday and police are on patrol in the streets.
