Iraq stands firm on UN sanctions
President Saddam Hussein of Iraq has called on all sections of society, including the military, to be prepared for further sacrifices to maintain the country's sovereignty. He was speaking in a nationwide broadcast on Iraqi Army Day. The BBC Middle East correspondent says the speech is a further indication that Iraq is not prepared to conform with United Nations resolutions, including those demanding that UN inspectors be given unconditional access to all sites in their search for weapons of mass destruction.
