New Mexican Finance Minister

The President of Mexico, Ernesto Zedillo, has named the current foreign minister, Jose Angel Gurria, as the new minister of finance.

Mr Gurria, who will also be in charge of the country's economic policy, has accepted the post, saying he'll continue to work to consolidate economic recovery in Mexico.

Mr Gurria will replace Guillermo Ortiz Martinez, who stepped down to become the new governor of the Bank of Mexico.
