Iranian radio reports progress with Pakistan towards possible peace in Afghanistan

Reports from Iran say that there has been progress in relations with Pakistan which could help to resolve the Afghan conflict.

State-run Tehran radio said said both countries realised that cooperation was necessary to end the war.

It said that a meeting last month between officials from the two governments at the Organisation of the Islamic Conference gathering in Tehranmarked a turning point.

The report coincides with a visit to Tehran by the Pakistani envoy, Iftikhar Murshid.

Meanwhile, the ousted Afghan President, Burhanuddin Rabbani, is in Tajikistan for talks with President Imomali Rahmonov.
