Giant killers Stevenage Borough are drawing up plans to keep home advantage in their dream FA Cup fourth round draw against Newcastle United.

They hope to double the capacity of their ground by installing an extra 6,000 seats for the match.

Club directors are holding talks with police about safety issues. Chairman Victor Green hopes to get approval by Tuesday.

The move came after Borough manager Paul Fairclough said his side wanted to play at Newcastle's St James' Park.

But Mr Green said: "It's a home draw and we want to show the world we are very proud of our stadium."

"Another 6,000 seats will allow us to get all our supporters in and send some more tickets up to Newcastle.

"Newcastle have lost twice before to non-league sides in the Cup and we want to make it a hat-trick."

The club has more meetings lined up with police, the fire service and the buildings regulations office to decide how Stevenage can meet all the safety requirements.

Player Jason Soloman said: "The crowd and St James' Park has a good history and it would be a good day out for us again."

The capacity at Broadhall Way is 6,700 but the additional seating would allow Stevenage to send 3,500 tickets to Newcastle.

Stevenage Borough officials believe the extra United tickets would alleviate any problems of congestion outside the ground caused by Newcastle fans travelling to the match without tickets.
