Bulgarian police seize heroin

Police in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia have seized thirty kilograms of heroin with an estimated value of three million dollars.

The Interior Ministry said a Bulgarian and a Turkish citizen were arrested while unloading the drugs which had been smuggled in from Turkey and were hidden in the door of a car.

The seizure was made on the first day of a nationwide campaign against drug trafficking.

Bulgaria is one of several East European countries lying on the favourite routes for drug traffickers to smuggle narcotics from the Middle East to Western Europe.
