Zapatista supporters protest in Mexico City

Dozens of supporters of the Zapatista rebels in Mexico have staged demonstrations in Mexico City to protest against the massacre in the southern state of Chiapas two weeks ago of forty-five unarmed indian peasants.

Around thirty people blocked the entrance to the stock exchange, while other groups occupied two radio stations.

The demonstrators were calling for the disbanding of paramilitary groups linked to the governing party, the PRI, who have been accused of carrying out the massacre.

Meanwhile, the new Interior Minister, Francisco Labastida, has said he'd meet the Zapatista leader, Subcommander Marcos, if the rebels first disarmed -- a condition they have always rejected.
