Wasps are rewarded with a home tie against Fylde after beating Harlequins in the last round

Division two strugglers Fylde have been paired with glamour club Wasps in the fifth round of the Tetley's Bitter Cup.

The BBC's Ian Robertson reports on the draw from Rugby Union headquarters. (Dur 3'22")
Fylde, with just one win all season in Allied Dunbar Premiership Two, overcame Rosslyn Park 20-5 to earn their place in the fifth round draw.

The home draw is sure to be a relief for league champions Wasps, who have endured a poor start to the season.

But Wasps are looking forward to the new year after beating Richmond in the Premiership and Harlequins in the cup.

The tie of the round will be Bath against Richmond if the Somerset club can overcome London Scottish.

There is one definite Premiership One tie involving two mid-table teams, Northampton at home to Gloucester.

The other only clear-cut tie after the seven postponements at the weekend is London Irish's home match with Premiership Two side Rotherham.

Premiership leaders Newcastle, unbeaten in domestic competition this season, have been drawn away. But they will expect to beat the winners of the Worcester-Bristol tie.

Holders Leicester must overcome Coventry and then face a testing clash against second-placed Saracens if they defeat Blackheath.

The matches will be played on January 24 and 25.

The draw in full

  • West Hartlepool or Wakefield v Rugby or Reading
  • Northampton v Gloucester
  • London Scottish or Bath v Richmond
  • Worcester or Bristol v Newcastle
  • Wasps v Fylde
  • Blackheath or Saracens v Coventry or Leicester
  • London Irish v Rotherham
  • Moseley or Sale v Newbury
