Monday, January 5, 1998 Published at 15:10 GMT Sport Replay to include Dunn ![]() Wimbledon had complained of Dunn's actions
The referee criticised by Wimbledon in Sunday's FA Cup third round draw against Wrexham, Steve Dunn, will take charge of the replay on January 13.
Marcus Gayle headed it into the net and the Dons were furious when the effort was disallowed.
The Wimbledon manager, Joe Kinnear, had threatened to ask for a new referee for the replay but the FA say they have had no request.
Support for Dunn
The former referee, Clive Thomas, who disallowed a Brazilian goal against Sweden in the 1978 World Cup in similar circumstances has called for a change to the law.
"I have been waiting 20 years for someone else to do that. Twenty years I
have been praying, every cup tie," Thomas said.
Thomas says he has no doubt what could be done to prevent a similar incident happening again.
"The best law is the rugby union law which states the ball must be dead before you can blow the whistle and that's great. I suggested that after Argentina," he said.
The Premier League's referee spokesman, David Ellery, has also supported Dunn's actions.
"In law, Steve Dunn, was correct," he said. "The law states that the referee is the sole judge of time."
"Although his decision has proved controversial this is only the second time it has happened in 20 years, so I don't see the need for a change in the law," he said.
