Afghan Tajik visit

The deposed Afghan president, Burhanuddin Rabbani, has arrived in Tajikstan where he is planning to hold talks with the Tajik president, Imomali Rahmonov, on ways to resolve the conflict in Afghanistan.

Mr Rabbani, who was forced out of Kabul by the Taleban movement, has recently visited Iran and Pakistan in his efforts to find a diplomatic solution.

He represents the northern alliance of anti-Taleban factions.

The BBC Central Asia correspondent says that in spite of the diplomatic moves, the focus in Afghanistan is still on the fighting.
