Jordan observes navy exercise

The commander of Jordan's navy, Rear Admiral Hussein Khassawneh, has gone to Turkey to observe controversial manoeuvres this week involving Turkish, Israeli and American forces.

Turkey and Israel insist that the sole purpose of the naval exercises is joint training in search and rescue missions and say they pose no threat to anyone.

Jordan's role has been criticised by Egypt, Syria and Iran.

The manoeuvres are being held under a military cooperation accord between Turkey and Israel.
