East Timor students in new protest
About eighty East Timorese students have held a protest at the regional government building in the central Indonesian city of Semarang. The demonstrators, from the East Timorese students organisation, Impetu, say they want Indonesian government protection from military and police violence. They are also seeking official explanations for the alleged kidnapping and torture of at least nine East Timorese students and teachers last month by the Indonesian armed forces on the island of Java.
