Tough draw for Widnes
Pedigree cup fighters Widnes are set to meet reformed Oldham in the only all-professional tie of the Silk Cut Challenge Cup third round.
But Oldham must first overcome Yorkshire amateur side, Heworth, in a play-off at Boundary Park on January 18. Widnes reached Wembley seven times in 10 years from 1975-84. The club is one of 18 professional outfits automatically granted a home tie in the third round. In other ties, amateurs West Hull will be looking to knock out a professional side for the third time in as many years when they play Lancashire Lynx in Preston. West Hull reached the fifth round in 1996 knocking out Highfield and York on the way. There could also be upsets at Doncaster, where Yorkshire Cup winners, Featherstone Lions, are the visitors, and at Dewsbury, who take on local amateur side, Thornhill. Two amateur sides are guaranteed to be in the fourth round when the 12 Super League clubs join the competition Eastmoor take on Egremont and Moldgreen will entertain Ovenden in two all-amateur ties The ties will be played on January 31 and February 1.
