Sunday, January 4, 1998 Published at 19:59 GMT Sport Stevenage face Newcastle in FA Cup ![]() Newcastle manager, Kenny Dalglish, will be pondering a tie against Stevenage
Non-league Stevenage were rewarded for their 2-1 FA Cup win over Swindon with a fourth round match against second favourites Newcastle.
The favourites, Manchester United were drawn at home to Peterborough or Walsall.
Stevenage, struggling in the lower half of the Vauxhall Conference, had been hoping for a big club and were delighted to gain a home tie against Newcastle, who had beaten Everton 1-0 shortly before the draw.
Stevenage boss Paul Fairclough said: "It's an absolutely fantastic draw for the club, brilliant."
He said the club had not yet decided whether to play the game at Stevenage Stadium or move it to Newcastle's St James' Park.
Newcastle manager Kenny Dalglish insisted he did not care who the opponents were, but warned supporters not to expect a walkover.
He said: "You can't be complacent. You have to give them respect because they deserve
that. They played really well and they deserved to beat Swindon."
However, Stevenage are 5,000-1 outsiders to win the FA Cup.
Man Utd favourites
Manchester United are 3-1 favourites after beating Chelsea 5-3 in the third round and then being drawn at home to Peterborough or Walsall. William Hill quote them at 14-1 to land the treble of the FA Cup, the Premiership and the European Cup.
Third favourites Blackburn will travel to the winners of the third round replay between Watford and Sheffield Wednesday.
Tottenham Hotspur will have a home tie against Barnsley if they win their third round match against Fulham on Monday.
Two all Premiership ties are Coventry against Derby, and Crystal Palace versus Leicester.
If Arsenal can beat Port Vale, they could meet last year's finalists Middlesbrough, who have a replay against QPR.
The draw in full
The matches will be played on January 24-26.
