3 dead in Bangladesh clash

Clashes have broken out in the Bangladeshi city of Chittagong as police tried to evict people occupying disputed land.

Officials said three people were shot dead and more than fifty injured when police were ordered to open fire to control the situation.

Police said that among the arrested were a number of retired army officers.

The authorities say they acquired the land for the army after paying compensation to residents, but some argued that they didn't get enough.
