Israeli police hold American-Lebanese suspect

Police in Israel say they are holding an American citizen of Lebanese extraction because they suspect he is an agent for a Lebanese guerrilla group.

The man, an electrical engineer, was apparently detained ten days ago after he arrived in Israel from the United States.

This was made public when a court in the northern Israeli town of Acre lifted an order banning reports of his arrest.

The court also extended his detention for another ten days.

The Israelis have not named the man, nor the Lebanese group they say he was acting for.
