FIS condemns Algerian massacre

The outlawed Algerian opposition movement, the Islamic Salvation Front, the FIS, has joined condemnation of the massacre of more than four-hundred people in western Algeria last week.

In a statement, exiled leaders of the FIS described the killings as a crime against humanity.

But they also criticised the authorities for not protecting civilians, and repeated their demand for a political solution to the crisis.

Iran has also denounced the massacre, saying that the Muslim world should not remain indifferent to the violence.

The authorities in Algeria blame Islamic militants for repeated attacks on civilians.
