The British Home Secretary , Jack Straw, has said allegations that his son supplied cannabis to an undercover newspaper reporter haven't changed his opposition to the legalisation of the drug.

He said that although the use of cannabis was widespread in Britain, it was a dangerous drug.

Mr Straw was speaking after an English High Court judge ruled that his identity and that of his seventeen year-old son William could now be disclosed.

An earlier court ruling prevented the media in England and Wales from revealing their names , but the judge said that following revelation of their identities in several Scottish and non-British papers this was no longer sensible.

The Prime Minister, Tony Blair, has expressed full support for Mr Straw, and the Shadow Home Secretary, the opposition spokesman on home affairsSir Brian Mawhinney, said he sympathised with the Straw family.
