Bangladesh denies rebel leader's arrest

There's confusion over the fate of a leading member of the outlawed United Liberation Front of Assam, Golab Barua, who was reported to have been arrested in Bangladesh on Friday.

The authorities in Bangladesh deny they arrested him, even though a senior police official was quoted in a national newspaper as saying that Mr Barua had been detained.

Officials in India say that a formal request has been made to Bangladesh for his extradition on charges of sedition and waging war on the government.

But Bangladeshi officials say they have not received such a request.
