Turkish police arrests alleged Islamic militants

The Turkish police have arrested fourteen men believed to be members of the Islamic militant group Hezbollah in the southeastern town of Batman.

Police said the men had been involved in the deaths of twelve people over the last three years.

Correspondents says the movement in Turkey -- which is mainly Kurdish -- is not connected to the Lebanese group Hezbollah.

Earlier this week, the Turkish Interior Ministry warned police forces throughout the country of an increased risk of attacks by Islamic militants during New Year festivities, which coincided with the start of Ramadan.
