New Indian cricket captain

The Indian cricket selectors have brought back Mohammad Azharuddin as captain of the national team, replacing Sachin Tendulkar.

Azharuddin will lead India in next week's tournament of one-day matches with Pakistan and Bangladesh in Dhaka, the home test series against Australia and a triangular series with Australia and Zimbabwe.

Azharuddin was removed as captain in 1996 after India lost the test and one-day series during their tour of England.

The chairman of the selection committee, Ramakant Desai, was reported as saying Tendulkar had been dropped because he could not take the pressure of both batting and being captain.
