Mexican army finds weapons in Chiapas
Army officials in Mexico say they have found a cache of weapons in the southern state of Chiapas as Zapatista rebels commemorate the fourth anniversary of their uprising. The officials said the find was made in the Altamirano township, but gave no details about the size of the cache or what type of weapons it contained. Correspondents say tension is still high in Chiapas following last week's massacre in which forty-five Indian peasants were killed. Survivors of the attack have blamed pro-government paramilitaries, and the authorities have arrested about forty people, many of them local members of Mexico's governing Institutional Revolutionary Party.
