Tajikistan introduces import duty

Tajikistan has introduced a tax of five percent on all imports and ended privileges which allowed some companies not to pay sales tax.

The prime minister, Yahya Azimov, said the measures were needed to help Tajikistan achieve its economic targets for the first half of the year.

Analysts say the Tajik government wants to bring down inflation to around twenty-one percent a year and increase economic growth by four-and-a-half percent.
