Moi still ahead in Kenyan presidential race

Kenyan President Daniel arap Moi continued to lead in the presidential poll in 123 constituencies, having gained 1,466,891 of the votes counted by this morning, Kenyan KTN TV reported at 1000 gmt.

His closest challenger was the Democratic Party's Mwai Kibaki with 1,091,869 votes.

National Development Party's (NDP) Raila Odinga was third with 472,826 votes.

In fourth place was Michael Wamalwa with 268,044 votes, while SDP's (Social Democratic Party) Charity Ngilu was fifth with 194,235 votes.

The television said KANU was also leading in the parliamentary poll, having captured 53 seats.

The Democratic Party followed with 21 seats.

The NDP was third with 15 seats.

In fourth place was Ford (Forum for the Restoration of Democracy)-Kenya with 10 seats.
