Israelis fire at West Bank checkpoint

Israeli military officials say troops shot and wounded a Jordanian man at a checkpoint in the West Bank after he failed to stop as ordered.

The incident happened near the town of Qalqilya as soldiers were checking workers returning from jobs in Israel.

A spokeswoman said a soldier pursuing the man opened fire, fearing he was going to be attacked.
