Half a million people threatened by starvation in Papua New Guinea

Australian aid workers in Papua New Guinea have warned that more than half a million people are still at risk of starvation because of the country's severe drought.

The chief executive of the aid agency, CARE, Charles Tapp, said that despite rains in some areas the situation remained desperate.

Australia and New Zealand are taking part in an emergency relief effort in Papua New Guinea, where the effects of the drought have been exacerbated by forest fires.
