Villeneuve: recovering after a skiing accident

The World Formula One champion , Jacques Villeneuve, has suffered concussion in a skiing accident.

Villeneuve was on holiday at the French Alps resort of Pra-Loup, 62 miles from his home in Monte Carlo, when he fell.

The 26-year-old Canadian was taken to a nearby hospital and told by doctors to rest for 24 hours.

Draguy Vojvodanovic, a Pra-Loup regional tourism and ski business official, said: "Villeneuve had a light ski fall, which caused a light concussion.

"The doctors who saw him recommended 24 hours of rest."

Mr Vojvodanovic added that Villeneuve returned home to finish his vacation and celebrate the New Year with his friends.

Villeneuve, who was born in Iberville, Quebec, won seven races in a Williams-Renault car to become the first Canadian to win the Formula One championship

Her won the title in the final race of the year when he finished third after surviving a bumping incident with rival Michael Schumacher at the European Grand Prix in Jerez, Spain.
