Fidel welcomes Concorde
The Cuban President, Fidel Castro, attended the arrival of the first Concorde supersonic airliner to land on Cuban soil. The Air France plane flew from Paris carrying a group of British businessmen. President Castro is reported to have boarded the aircraft, spoken to the crew and sat in the pilot's seat. Cuban officials say the visit is part of attempts to boost commercial contacts with European Union member-states. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
