India's man in London goes home

The longest-serving Indian High Commissioner to Britain, LM Singhvi, is returning to India after seven years in the post.

During his tenure, Dr Singhvi, has seen a large increase in Anglo-Indian trade and helped to negotiate numerous treaties, including an extradition agreement which aims to prevent suspected Sikh militants from taking refuge in Britain.

A BBC correspondent says he has also experienced the thornier side of Delhi'srelations with London, such as the recent controversial visit to India by the Queen.

Dr Singhvi said media coverage of the trip was the low point of his time in office.
