Bangladesh cabinet further expanded

The Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, has further expanded her cabinet bringing the total number of ministers to thirty-seven.

Six new ministers have been sworn in by the President, Shahabuddin Ahmed.

The move comesdespite recommendations by Western donor countries that the government should have a smaller cabinet.

Correspondents say the expansion is aimed at reducing pressure on existing members, many of whom have to look after more than one ministry.
