Talking Point

Has Diana's death changed Britain?

Diana, Princess of Wales died on 31st August 1997. Her funeral service was held a week later in Westminster Abbey. Now a memorial garden is being planned for outside her Kensington Palace home.

The event triggered an unprecedented display of public grief demonstrated by the thousands of floral tributes laid in her memory at Kensington Palace. Were you touched by Elton John's 'Candle in the Wind' or Earl Spencer's speech?

Many commentators spoke of the change that had swept Britain as people found a way to express new-found levels of compassion. Others say the remarkable public and private reactions were only temporary and that normal British life has since resumed.
