Opposition activists sentenced in Belarus
A court in Minsk has taken action against Belarussian opposition activists for organising an unsanctioned rally in the capital last month. It imposed a fine equivalent to almost one-thousand-dollars on the acting head of the main opposition Popular Front movement, Lyavon Borshchevsky, and passed out a ten-day jail sentence against Valery Shchukin, a member of the old Belarussian parliament disbanded by President Lukashenko in the wake of a national referendum last year giving him extended powers.
