Romanian stowaways heading for Canada end up in Egypt

The Egyptian newspaper, Al-Ahram, says three Romanian stowaways jumped out of a ship's container in the Nile Delta shouting and dancing because they mistakenly thought they had reached Canada.

The paper said dockers at the port of Damietta opened the container after hearing calls from the men inside.

The stowaways told the the police they entered Italy illegally, where an Albanian docker put them into a container they thought was bound for Canada.

In fact, it was on its way to a factory in Egypt.

Police contacted the Romanian embassy and released the men to await deportation.
