More die in east African floods

Torrential rain in east Africa has led to more deaths from flooding and disease.

Reports sau sixteen people drowned and fifty-three died of waterborne diseases in the Qoryoole area of southern Somalia.

Local leaders said sixty-five villages had been swept away by the floods, and appealed for emergency aid to fight dysentery and malaria.

Reports from Tanzania say seventeen people died in flooding in the past week when their houses collapsed in the northern town of Igunga.

The deaths bring to more than two-hundred the number of people reported to have died in Tanzania since the floods started in October.
