Liverpool's Steve McManaman smashed in a double as the visitors came back from a goal behind to beat Newcastle 2-1.
Steve Watson's early header put the Magpies ahead but Liverpool hit back before half-time.
McManaman's drive cannoned in off the woodwork then he met a centre with a sweet first-time shot to inflict another defeat on Kenny Dalglish's men.
Late goals beat Manchester Utd
Dion Dublin returned to give his old club a post-Christmas roasting with an 87th minute penalty to level the score at 2-2.
Darren Huckerby grabbed the winner in the dying seconds as the champions lost only their fourth game of the campaign.
But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer levelled on 30 minutes. When Teddy
Sheringham put Alex Ferguson's men ahead two minutes after the restart another three points seemed in the bag.
Jurgen is back
Spurs fans gave returning German Jurgen Klinsmann a standing ovation as he made his second debut for Tottenham.
His deflected touch on to Allan Neilsen provided Spurs' goal in the first half of the north London derby.
After the break Arsenal took control eventually equalising through Ray Parlour.
Klinsmann is back, spurs won a point but still slipped further into the relegation mire as Everton and Barnsley won.
Rovers slip up
Blackburn failed to take full advantage of United's defeat as they were held
to a 2-2 home draw by Crystal Palace.
The visitors twice went ahead through Bruce Dyer and former Rovers star
Paul Warhurst.
Blackburn levelled through Kevin Gallacher and Chris Sutton Manchester United's lead at the top is now trimmed to five points.
Leeds, on the fringe of the championship race, were held to a 1-1 draw at home against Aston Villa.
