Sunday, December 28, 1997 Published at 19:08 GMT Sport: Football Hasselbaink hero at both ends
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was Leeds United's hero at both ends as they dominated mid-table Aston Villa.
Leeds eventually gained the advantage they richly deserved when Hasselbaink latched on to Lee Bowyer's cross to head his eighth goal of the season.
Four minutes earlier, Hasselbaink was forced into action in his own area when he
had to clear Steve Staunton's long free kick with Savo Milosevic nearby.
In the 58th minute Hasselbaink missed a glorious chance after racing onto Bowyer's defence-splitting pass.
Villa goalkeeper Mark Bosnich stood his ground and pushed the striker's effort wide.
Hasselbaink and Bowyer were at the centre of virtually everything Leeds created.
Off the line
Villa left back Alan Wright had to be alert to head clear on the hour as Bowyer raced forward to meet Hasselbaink's cross.
In a dull first half Milosevic came closest with a header from Steve Staunton's cross but Hasselbaink headed off the line.
Hasselbaink was also behind Leeds' best chance of the first half when he latched onto a seventh-minute Rod Wallace back header.
Villa grabbed the equalizer with just seven minutes remaining.
Milosevic headed home Steve Staunton's cross from the left-hand corner flag.
