Three found guilty in Kuwait over alleged assassination attempt

A court in Kuwait has sentenced two Iranians and a Kuwaiti national to life imprisonment for attempting to kill a leading opposition politician involved in exposing corruption.

A second Kuwaiti was given a ten year sentence for his part in a machine gun attack on the politician, Abdullah Naibari.

He was seriously wounded, and underwent months of hospital treatment in the United States.

Before the trial, Mr Naibari alleged that some of the defendants had been involved in a multi-million dollar financial scam which he said he had helped to expose.

A separate investigation is underway into the scam.

It involves an alleged attempt to defraud the government of one hundred million dollars using contracts to supply food to the Kuwaiti army at inflated prices.
