Sudanese university closes after student clashes
Reports from Khartoum say the University of Kassala in eastern Sudan has been closed after clashes between students over elections to the student union. The independent Al Rai Al Aam newspaper said the university had been closed until February the sixth, after riots broke out during vote-counting. Several students were injured. The university said a committee has been set up to investigate the incidents, while a government minister Arefa Awad al Kerim dismissed suggestions there had been outside instigation.
