Pro-government lawyer wins Sudan Bar Association vote
A lawyer with close ties to the military-backed government in Sudan has been re-elected as head of the Bar Association, despite charges of vote-rigging. The election comes a week after opposition lawyers in Sudan organised a one-day strike demanding a new election for the Bar Association board, which it says was packed with pro-government members. The Sudanese opposition has accused government supporters of hijacking the poll and tampering with the vote. But the successful candidate, Fatehi Ahmed Khalil, has denied the allegations.
