Six people arrested after jail raid thwarted

Reports from Pakistan say that six people have been arrested following an armed attack on a jail on Friday in the town of Dera Ghazi Khan in Punjab province.

The attackers are said to belong to an extremist Sunni Muslim group .

After overpowering prison guards they managed to free five of their members, who were jailed in connection with a killing of an Iranian diplomat nearly ten years ago.

Shots were fired inside the prison and four prison guards were wounded.

The attackers escaped in a waiting car, pursued by the police.
