The train was traveling between Liege and Mouscron on the French border when it collided with the car near the city of Andenne, 60 kilometres south-east of Brussels.

The car had failed to heed warning lights. Both of the car's passengers were killed.

The impact forced two of the train's three cars off the track and into a house close to the line.
