Journalist detained in Cameroon

A leading newspaper editor in Cameroon has been detained by the authorities in Douala.

The journalist, Pius Njawe, who is editor of the Messenger, has been accused of disseminating false reports.

Correspondents say his detention is linked to a report published earlier in the week, which suggested President Paul Biya had suffered a mild heart attack while watching the final of Cameroon's football cup.

The report was denied by the office of the President.
