Commonwealth 'concern' over Kaunda
The Commonwealth has expressed concern at the detention of the former Zambian President Kenneth Kaunda without charge. The Commonwealth Secretary general, Emeka Anyaoku, said that while the organisation was fully committed to the rule of law, Zambia's future stability, and the maintenance of democracy there, depended on the full transparency of the authorities in dealing with opposition leaders. Chief Anyaoku said his concern was shared by other leaders in the region. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
