Italian president issues pardons

The Italian president, Oscar Luigi Scalfaro, has pardoned six people convicted of offences linked to terrorism.

Italian television reported that five of them were members of the left-wing Red Brigades and the sixth was from the right-wing National Vanguard group.

It said none of the six had been directly involved in any killings.
