Yemeni opposition politician killed

Reports from Yemen say a leading politician from the opposition Yemen Socialist Party, Ahmed Mohammed Al-Raimi, has been killed in an attack on Thursday night in the province of Sanaa.

Details of the attack have not been made public; security forces are reported to be questioning several suspects.

The Yemen Socialist Party was the only party in the former Republic of South Yemen until the reunification of the country in 1990.

Its attempt to bring about a new scesssion of the south in 1994 was crushed by the northern army of President Ali Abdallah Saleh.
