German freed by Filipino kidnappers
Unidentified kidnappers in southern Philippines have freed unharmed a German businessman after holding him for nearly four months. The man, Robert Buehs, was released near the city of Zamboanga, where he has managed a fishing company for several years. Reports say a ransom of more than one-hundred-and-twenty-thousand dollars was paid. He was seized early in September while driving home from work. Sources in the area believe he was taken by a faction of the separatist Moro Islamic Liberation Group. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
