Moldova's Army Chief Sacked for Corruption

The President of Moldova has sacked the country's chief of general staff, General Vladimir Dontul, following a national audit of army sites and barracks.

The general, who was also dismissed as Moldova's First Deputy Defence Minister, has been accused of misappropriating army funds and misusing his position.

Correspondents say that corruption is a serious problem within the Moldovan officer corps.
