Hijacker extradited to India
A Sikh convicted over the hijacking of an Indian Airlines plane to Pakistan in 1981 has been extradited from Canada to India. The man, Tejinder Paul Singh, was imprisoned after the plane, on a domestic flight with more than one-hundred passengers aboard, was hijacked to Lahore in 1981. Released after fourteen years in a Pakistani jail, Mr Singh fled to Canada in 1995 with a fake passport, and was arrested in Vancouver earlier this month. The Canadian immigration authorities refused to grant him refugee status. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
