Thirty-two people died when a passenger train collided with a second train standing at a rural station in Pakistan. About 40 more were injured in the accident.
The Rohi Express bound for Islamabad slammed into another train some 300 kilometers (180 miles) southeast of Islamabad at Rustam Sargana, shortly before midnight on Wednesday.
It was not immediately clear what caused the crash, but visibility at the time was extremely poor because of heavy fog.
The medical supervisor at Jhang hospital, Javed Omar, said that most of the injured were being treated and would be discharged but four people were badly hurt.
"The rest of the injured are recoverable," he said. "But 32 people have been killed."
Emergency services were rushed to the scene during the night with cutting equipment and lights, witnesses said.
The accident took place on the eve of a national holiday and both trains were thought to be fairly full.
The air force was called in to help rescuers cut through compartments to reach the injured, officials said.
