Israel charges German over alleged bomb plot

An Israeli court has indicted a German national for planning a suicide attack on behalf of the Lebanese based militant group Hezbollah.

The man -- named asJoseph Smirak -- has been charged with membership of a terrorist organisation and conspiring to assist Israel's enemies.

He's reported to have told interrogators he'd been recruited by Hezbollah during a visit to Lebanon and trained in the use of explosives and light weapons.

A Hezbollah official has denied the charges, saying the whole story is an invention of Israeli intelligence.
